Robert Sturua is Georgian painter-monumentalist, People’s Artist of the Georgian SSR (1965). In 1933, he entered the Tbilisi Art Academy. In 1939, he continued his studies at the Moscow Surikov Art Institute at the faculty of monumental painting. His works include such examples as “Victory Celebration” – Chiatura, Tsereteli theater hall ceiling painting, “Friendship of peoples” – the ceiling of the hall of the culture house in village Sabi (Ozurgeti district), “The good overcame evil” – the culture house of the miners, Tkibuli, the ceiling of the metallurgists’ culture house in Chiatura, frieze for the Tbilisi branch of the Lenin Central Museum and many others. He also worked in easel painting and in the portrait genre. It is worth noting landscapes depicing different parts of Georgia. His graphical artworks- book illustrations are also significant; In particular, the illustrations of the works of Ilia Chavchavadze and Vazha Pshavela, performed at a high professional level.
