Lolashvili Janri

Janri Lolashvili is a People’s Artist of Georgia, a Laureate of the State Prize, a Knight of the European Order of Human History, and the owner of many other awards and titles. “In painting, I am a director, dramatist, scenographer and actor. This feeling, this emotion allows you to be more free. Everything is invented here. It is more of an illusory world. In general, the more you creatively depart from reality, the better.” He has been drawing since 1959, worked as an artist-animator in the film studio “Georgian Film” (1958-1961). In 1961-1963, he was an artist at the Institute of Cinematography. While still studying at the faculty of Directing Animation at Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography (VGIK), Moscow, along with other subjects, he took the actor’s mastery course of I. Stabilin. J. Lolashvili was seriously carried away by performing arts. In 1965 he graduated from the State Theater Institute. This is where his acting career begins. The roles played by him made the audience of many countries of the world talk about the Georgian theater. Luarsab, the Jester, Mercutio, Varsken, the narrator from the “Caucasian Chalk Circle” and dozens of other characters, the legendary actor created memorable characters on stage and in the cinema. In fine arts, he created paintings with interesting technique and style. He had personal and group exhibitions both in Georgia (National Gallery named after D. Shevardnadze (2015), Sh. Rustaveli Theater (2020), as well as in Germany and Russia (as part of the Georgian Culture Days).
