Alexidze Nelli

Sculptor and teacher, Honored Artist of Georgia, Nelli Aleksidze graduated from the Tbilisi Academy of Art’s sculpture department, where she studied under Silovan Kakabadze and Nikoloz Kandelaki. She primarily created small statuary—portrait sculptures and small compositions, with a particular focus on dancing figures. Her first notable works include Georgian Dance (1951, plaster), and  A Dancing Woman with a Tambourine (1953, earthenware).

Tbilisi public spaces feature two of Aleksidze’s sculptures: the fountain composition Samaia (1960s, bronze, in collaboration with Temo Tchkonia and Gogi Kartvelishvili) and the tombstone portrait of the poet Ioseb Grishashvili at the Mtatsminda Pantheon (1966, bronze).

Aleksidze’s sculptural works are preserved in the Art Museum of Georgia and the Georgian National Museum.
