From May 4 to August 20, 2023, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art will host Niko Pirosmani (1862-1918) exhibition in Hummelbeck, Denmark, then from September 17, 2023 to January 28, 2024, the exhibition will be transferred to the Beyeler Foundation in Switzerland, St. Rien.
The exhibition is organised jointly by the Foundation Beyeler and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art and realised in cooperation with the Georgian National Museum and the Ministry of Culture, Sport and Youth of Georgia, generously supported by the Infinitart Foundation. The Infinitart Foundation was the initiator and one of the organizers of the Niko Pirosmani exhibition NIKO PIROSMANI: WANDERER BETWEEN WORLDS held at Albertina Museum in Vienna (Austria) and the Vincent van Gogh Foundation, Arles (France) in 2018-2019.
Visitors will see 48 works of Pirosmani; 47 of them belong to the New and Contemporary Georgian Art Collection of the Shalva Amiranashvili State Museum of Art, and one work was selected from the Niko Pirosmanashvili State Museum of Mirzaani (National Agency for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Georgia).
Within the framework of the project, memorandums of cooperation were signed between the National Museum of Georgia and the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art and the Beyeler Foundation, on the basis of which, in cooperation with foreign colleagues, an interactive multilingual website about Niko Pirosmani and his work will be created, which will further contribute to the introduction and popularization of the unique phenomenon of Pirosmani in the world.
The success story of the Louisiana Museum is attributed to its founder, Knud W. Jensen. His creativity and unique vision laid the foundation. Many famous and valuable art pieces are collected in the museum. One of the strongest points of the museum is its close connection with the international artistic processes and cultural environment.
The Louisiana Museum’s collection includes nearly 4,000 exhibits spanning the period from 1945 to the present. The collection includes examples of painting and sculpture from almost all styles of this period (including European New Realism, American Pop Art, German art of the 1980s and video art from the 1990s, etc.).
