Konstantine Merabishvili graduated from the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts in 1930, where he specialized in sculpture under Iakob Nikoladze. He began his pedagogical career there in 1934.
Merabishvili primarily worked in two fields: monumental sculpture and portraiture.
In 1937, he received his first monumental sculpture commission after winning the Monument to Shota Rustaveli competition. The sculpture was unveiled on Rustaveli Avenue in 1942, earning him the prestigious State Prize of the USSR.
Merabishvili’s notable works include busts of renowned scientists such as Ivane Tarkhnishvili, Dmitriy Mendeleev, Giorgi Nikoladze, and Andria Razmadze, which are displayed in the garden of Tbilisi State University. Additionally, he sculpted portraits of his mentor Iakob Nikoladze (1946, stone), and the prominent painter Martiros Saryan (1952, bronze). Apart from his contributions to Tbilisi’s public spaces, Merabishvili’s works can also be seen in the Georgian National Museum.
