Sculptor, Honored artist of Georgia, representative of the 50s generation of Georgian sculptors. Guram Kordzhakhiya graduated from the Academy of Arts in 1952 and immediately made a name for himself on a national and all-union scale by his graduation work – a sculpture by Vladimir Mayakovsky, brought the 29-year-old sculptor a great recognition. Initially, the statue was set up in the courtyard of the poet’s house-museum in Moscow; later, his copy was erected in Digomi, Tbilisi. His second, also well-known composition “Flowergirl”, carved from marble, stood in the courtyard of the “Iveriya” hotel.
The sculptor systematically participated in exhibitions of the republican and all-Union scales; since 1954, he taught at the art school, and since 1964 – at the Academy of Arts. Guram Kordzakhiya was a WWII veteran. He was awarded a medal for bravery, and the orders of the Red Banner and Glory.
