Tamaz Kakabadze (Kakacha) was a painter, graphic designer, and stage designer – one of the outstanding representatives of Georgian painting in the 80s of the 20th century. 1954-1996 he graduated from the Jacob Nikoladze art school; Faculty of Painting of Tbilisi Academy of Arts, workshop of Professor Dimitri Takaishvili. The main themes of the artist’s work are landscape, still life and composition. Use of white color is one of the main features of his painting. Artist skillfully uses the entire range of white color, which makes his works – series of white landscapes or white houses – distinctive and memorable. Notable works include: White City, Gramophone, And the Ship Sails, By the Fountain, Old Tbilisi, Bernard Alba’s House, Tram Stalin and others. In the 1980s, he was one of the founders of the young artists’ club Pirosmani in Abanotubani, Tbilisi. In 1987, he worked on the film Secret – Mitrofane Lagidze, together with artist Mikheil Yashvili. He was a member of the Union of Artists of Georgia in 1986-1996. He has participated in 5 personal and 25 group exhibitions. In 2011, Baya Gallery organized a retrospective of Tamaz Kakabadze’s works and released the album Kakacha. His works are kept in private collections of Georgia and abroad.
