Lev Baiakhchev was born in Tbilisi, representative of the 50s generation of artists. The main motifs of his painting are Tbilisi landscapes, portraits, still lives and nudes. Lev Bayakhchev graduated from Tbilisi Art Academy in 1954, where he studied in the workshops of Sergo Kobuladze, Vasil Shukhaev, Apollon Kutateladze and Korneli Sanadze. For his excellent studies, he was rewarded with a trip to Moscow and Leningrad, which allowed him to get acquainted with the works of art preserved in the museums there. His diploma work was a triptych “Poets of the Revolution” with images of Mayakovsky and Blok.
Since 1961, Bayakhchev regularly participated in spring and autumn exhibitions. In 1963, he became a member of the Union of Artists of the Soviet Union. He organized the first personal exhibition in the house of Elene Akhvlediani, which was followed by a number of solo exhibitions.
Lev Bayakhchev’s works are preserved in the Art Museum of Georgia, Telavi, Sighnaghi and Batumi museums, in many private collections around the world, including the Zimmerli Art Museum.
