Zelimkhan Gogolashvili was a Georgian painter, graphic artist, and book illustrator.
He was a member of the Georgian and USSR Artists’ Unions and held the title of Honored Artist of the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic. An alumnus of the Tbilisi Academy of Arts (1941–1947), he studied in the studio of Ucha Japaridze. After graduation, he participated in numerous local and international exhibitions, including the ones in Japan and Great Britain.
He mostly found inspiration in allegorical and mythological themes, creating works such as The First Love, The Plea (collection of the artist’s family), Ilia Visiting Brother and Sister Marjory and Oliver Wardrops (Georgian National Gallery), graphic portraits of Rustaveli and King Tamar, and a panel painting dedicated to the bicentennial of the signing of the Treaty of Gerogievsk.
His works are preserved in the artist’s family collection, the Georgian National Museum, the Art Palace of Georgia, and different museums in Russia.
