Popkhadze Laka

Laka Popkhadze, Georgian artist born in Tbilisi in 1967. From 1987 to 1993, she studied at the Faculty of Easel Painting at the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts. She also studied at the Tbilisi Art Vocational School and in the studios of Gia Edzgveradze and Karaman Kutateladze. She has also worked in the field of architectural monument restoration. She currently works at the ART FABRIC art studio.

Popkhadze’s artistic practice is characterised by bold strokes, multilayered compositions, and dynamic contrasts. Through vivid pigments and subtle tonal variations, she seeks to express personal yet universal emotions and experiences that are difficult to convey in words. The interplay of colour and composition plays a significant role in her artistic language.

Popkhadze participates in group exhibitions and art projects both in Georgia and abroad. Her exhibition practice encompasses charitable initiatives, collaborative artistic projects, and international events. In 2026, she participated in Beyond the Silence, an exhibition of Georgian women artists held in Antwerp, Belgium, in collaboration with Eristavi Gallery and N9 Gallery. In the same year, she presented the exhibition Fragments alongside Salome Bochorishvili at the National Centre of Folklore in Tbilisi. Her works were also exhibited at Tbilisi Art Fair 2026 as part of the Healing project presented by ARTTENT Gallery. One of her works was sold and subsequently sent to the United States.
