Levan Songulashvili is a painter, multimedia, video and installation artist, was born in Tbilisi. At present, he lives in New York and manages art projects in both USA and Europe. Levan started painting in his early childhood. In 2013, after graduation of Tbilisi State Academy of Art he entered New York Academy of Art, established by Andy Warhol. He is the first Georgian who received a Master of Painting from the academy. Together with an associate professor he later led the MA course of Art and Culture there. Levan’s works are kept in private collections and museums. Since 2006, his works are kept in permanent collection of Brooklyn Museum of Art. In 2007, the artist’s works are presented on a group exhibition at London’s Royal Academy of Arts ahead of the venue’s 250th anniversary. In 2018, he participated a in solo multimedia exhibition-project Stix at The Erti Gallery in Tbilisi. The same year his works are exhibited in Berlin and Geneva. In 2019, he was invited to the Art Residency in Singapore, where in Chapell Gallery in Objectifs (Singapore Contemporary Art, Photography and Film Center) arranges his multimedia exhibition Stoicheion. He cooperates with Jeremy Deler, the Turner prize-winner; Iggy Pop, the American rock-musician; Issey Miayke, the Japanese fashion designer; Giya Kancheli, the Georgian composer. He is the recipient of many national and international prizes, among them: the presidential, primer-minister and New York State Assembly prizes for the achievement and share in art. The monograph of Songulashvili’s work ‘The STYX’ co-authored by Mark Gisbourne was presented at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2018.
