Levan Kharanauli graduated from the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts in 1986. Since 1983 the artist has been participating in various group exhibitions. His solo-shows were held at different times in both Georgia and abroad: in the Tianeti Local Museum, Shalva Amiranashvili Museum of Fine Arts, Giorgi Leonidze State Museum of Literature, the “TMS Gallery” and “Old Gallery” in Tbilisi, as well as in Nantes, Paris and Bologna.
Levan Kharanauli also designs books. He made illustrations for the collections of poetry of his father, Besik Kharanauli, Mariam Khutsurauli’s “Sanata’s Book,” and the collection of verses of a well-known Georgian film director and novelist Goderdzi Chokheli “From the Twilight-Color Valley to the Sky”.
In 1988, Levan Kharanauli took a lead role in the same director’s film “Easter Lamb.”
The majority of Levan Kharanauli’s works are held in private collections in Georgia, Italy, Germany, France, Spain and Luxembourg.
Portraits, still lives and landscapes of the native townlet Tianeti are the main themes in Kharanauli’s paintings. His models are mainly his family members and friends. With simple objects such as tea-cups or children’s shoes, he creates icons of his family’s everyday environment and family history.
He lives and works in Tianeti.
